Don’t invite Piet Mondrian to your party. I know he starts out by making a great impression, but after a little while he becomes a real square.

“[Drawing Machine] […] with the Sound of its Own Making”, 2019
Beech and pine wood, steel, lead, nylon, pencil, paper, four tire set and audio player.
100 x 70 x 70 cm
Developed during the artistic residence of the Biennial of Coruche in Portugal, this drawing machine was made by cutting a work table – designed by José Espinho and produced by Olaio Furniture Makers in the 1970’s – which was also the table used to initially design and conceive the drawing machine itself. A wooden cube with about 70 cm width was built and several doors of different sizes were added to the cube. When the doors open the simple mechanisms placed inside the cube automatically draw random scrawls in a sheet of paper. At the same time, it is also possible to hear the sound recorded at the carpentry during the production of this work. This piece invites the audience to interact with it and discover it.
